Grillin' and Chillin'

As some of you may have seen on my facebook status...I made grilled chicken skewers. I'm sure everyone was like "Oh cool, sounds yummy." The main point of that update was to let people know that I MADE GRILLED CHICKEN SKEWERS.

Me. On a grill.

Maybe I should have mentioned that I had never used a grill before. That probably would have been relevant information, right? I know, I know, what self-respecting woman has never used a grill...but, in my defense, grilling is a boy's job! And I bet you just realized that I am definitely not a feminist. Oops.

So I had this craving this afternoon for grilled chicken. With mushrooms. And bell peppers. And onions. And I knew we had a bunch of skewer sticks at home. So I started getting these wild and crazy ideas about ME using the grill. Clint is at work until Friday morning, so this might actually be the best time for me to try my hand at grilling...less collateral damage. Decision: DONE. I ran by the grocery store after work to collect the necessary items, defrosted some chicken breasts, and was ready to go!

Except I couldn't get the grill to light. I followed the directions EXACTLY, but still had no luck. After some texts to Clint, I was informed that the "ingnitor" button hadn't been working well lately and I would need to light it by hand. Excuse me? Como what? Light it by hand...like, with a lighter??

To which I replied, "Is this going to blow me up?"

It didn't blow me up, in case you were wondering. It actually started with no problem when I used the lighter, and I was ready to start this adventure. My chicken was prepared with olive oil and salt and pepper, and I sprayed the skewers with cooking oil to keep them from sticking to the grill too badly. Worked like a charm! 10 minutes later I had the most delicious and delectable grilled chicken skewers that ANYONE has EVER eaten.

Minus the slightly burned skewer tips and the vaporized onions. But we won't talk about that. And I might just have them for dinner again tomorrow night. And every night after that for as long as I live.

  1. I'm with you! It's a rare day when I'm the one at the grill. Although I have a few recipes now that call for it, so I'm dealing. :-)

Did you soak the skewers in water for a bit? That seemed to fix my burned skewer issue.

    I'm loving your blog, btw!
