Clint and I both had last Friday off of work, so we decided to go put some of our wedding gift cards to good use! We actually had slightly different ideas about what we consider "good use" but we worked it out. We initially only agreed to buy a dishwasher, but after thinking some more, I felt that we have serious space issues in our home and need to buy things to give us extra storage...like a book case, some of those large Rubbermaid storage containers, a China cabinet, etc. Oh, I know no one NEEDS a China cabinet, but come on, a girl can wish, right? Clint, on the other hand, felt we should hold off on spending any of our gift cards or wedding money and save as much of it as possible. So basically, all we agreed upon was the dishwasher.
The funny/interesting/ridiculous part about this is that I am normally anti-spending. I hate spending money. I will scrimp and save and put myself through hell to NOT spend money. Clint is more of a spend-happy kind of person. He loves spending money-especially money that is a gift! That's why this situation caught us both off guard...we were really expecting the other person to follow their usual pattern of spending, or lack thereof, and it just didn't happen!
Oh, married life.
So. We had agreed on the dishwasher, and we brought a few gift cards with us as well to use at Target and Macy's. We bought a FABULOUS dishwasher from West Coast Appliance in Central Point, I highly recommend this store to anyone in Southern Oregon or Northern California. They are helpful, reasonably priced, and have a large selection in a variety of price ranges. Our lovely lady looks something like this:

I think I hear angels singing. Isn't she a beauty? We're slowly trying to accumulate stainless and black appliances...this might be my favorite one yet! It's still sitting in the box in the back of Clint's pickup, but it is IN OUR POSSESION! WOO!!
After the dishwasher, we headed to Target to see what kind of damage we could do there. I think we ended up with a bookcase, a floor lamp, storage containers, utensil trays, bathroom shelving, a shower caddy and Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince (the movie). We did good! Off to Macy's!
We had decided not to stop at Macy's. We didn't need to. We just ran into the mall really quick to ask the jewelry store a question about Clint's ring...and Macy's Home happened to be right across from us. It was a sign. About 30 minutes later we left after ordering this bad boy:

I think my brain was saying something like "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE CHINAAAA CABINETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" If you are going to make some remark about how I am old and married for wanting a China cabinet (Anna) you should know that I have always wanted a China cabinet. Always. Clint wants me to include a section about how I somehow manipulated him into wanting the China cabinet too, but I assure you that isn't how it happened at all. I spotted it from across the room, I fell in love instantly, and the price was very reasonable (for a China cabinet). I did, however, realize that we did not NEED it and we could go home without it and I would be okay. I told Clint this, and instead, he beelined back to our newfound love and brought out our gift cards to see if we had enough for it. We totally did. He hunted down the salesman and the rest is history! Just don't ever ask him for his side of the story...
Oh, except for the part about how Macy's doesn't deliver to Northern California. Seriously. Apparently there is the Macy's Northwest Division that delivers to Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, but won't go 30 minutes over the border into California. And the next closest Macy's Home store to us in California is Sacramento, and they will NOT deliver to where we live because it is too far north. Ridikkulous. So our cabinet will be delivered to the store in Oregon on July 3rd and we'll have to pick it up ourselves...but we still won't have to pay sales tax, and that's good enough for us!
EEEEEE CHINA CABINET!!

I love this post! I read your blog occasionally. I'm so excited for you to get a dishwasher (and your china cabinet, of course). I can't imagine not having one... and yours is beautiful!
