Day 21: Tell us about the last book you read.

Lately I have developed a disorder that I like to call "I can't finish anything I start." My blog obviously falls into this category, along with pretty much every other thing in my life. Books, sadly, are also affected by this problem. I think I have something like 4-5 books going right now, and very little chance of finishing any of them in the near future.

First off, I love to read. I have always been a self-proclaimed book worm, and spent most of my childhood reading Nancy Drew mysteries...along with every other book in my parents bookcases. I was definitely always reading a couple years (or decades) ahead of my age level. Of course, that promptly came to a halt when I started college at Cal, and was introduced to the expectation of reading 60 books a semester. I think it's safe to say I didn't read for a good 6 months after I graduated college. And when I did start reading again, you can bet it wasn't for intellectual purposes.

Anyway! Back on topic! I'm currently reading "Badass," "Paris 1919," and "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell." Don't judge me for the last one, it's terrible and disturbing and cringe-inducing. And very entertaining. Plus, I just had to know what all the hype was about. Also, I recently read "My Horizontal Life," by Chelsea Handler, and I wanted to compare the two books...I must say that Tucker Max paints a better picture.

"Badass" is a great historical-based book I borrowed from my cousin who borrowed it from my brother (thanks, Jess!). It basically picks out the most badass warrior characters throughout history and discusses them in the manner of a college student. Aka, with lots of slang and exaggeration. And I love it! But I can only take so much of it before I need a breather.

"Paris 1919" is a book that covers the Paris Peace Conference of 1919, following World War I. It's a GREAT book that Clint got me for Christmas in 2009...and I still haven't finished it. Sigh. It is super fascinating, and right up my alley but very difficult to read for extended periods of time. It's the kind of book that would be assigned in a college history class...and I think that is the source of some of my struggle with it. But I shall persevere!

I won't go into details about "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" because I consider this a family-friendly blog and I don't feel the content is appropriate. If you are interested, check it out on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. If you can get past the shock value, you might just be able to find the humor hidden somewhere in the pages!

My co-worker asked me today if I read any books. She wanted to know if I am reading any right now because she had a series for me to borrow...and all I could do was laugh.

  1. I have a rule, I have to read books in the order I get them. No exceptions. That way I can't let something sit on the shelf for years w/out reading it. And I only read one at a time.

  2. I like that rule, Christy. I may have to enact that for myself!!
