Day 8: There can only be one

You know what else irks me? This question. Can we break this down by genre? Color vs. black and white? Disney/Pixar vs. not animated?

No?

Sigh. Ok.

I'm probably going to get made fun of, but I REALLY like old movies. It's a thing we have in my family. We are very cultured in the way of music and movies. I thank my parents profusely for that, because let me tell you, some folks are not! And by some folks, I mean my husband. I am currently trying to expose him to all of this stuff that I've enjoyed my whole life and he has never experienced. So far I think I'm winning. Go me!

Movie #1: It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
Another thing you should know about me...I have a crush on Jimmy Stewart. Yes, I realize he is dead. And if he were alive he'd be 102. Fun fact, he was the same age as my Aunt Verna. Unfortunately, my brother killed him off in 1997...ask him about that sometime, it was a strange coincidence. Anyway, I am a big fan of any movie Jimmy Stewart has ever done, but this one takes the cake. It is a sad, melancholy, tear-jerking, heart-breaking movie. And it is the most uplifting and reaffirm-your-faith-in-humanity movie I have ever seen. It's also my Christmas movie. I don't know how exactly we got started with that tradition, but every year on Christmas Eve (or a day reasonably close to Christmas) we HAVE to watch this movie. I know it's not Jesus-y or anything like that, but it really does remind me of the "reason for the season" and it keeps me me optimistic on the state of the human race. Deep stuff, right? Needless to say, I highly recommend it.

Movie #2: It's a toss up between Casablanca, Harvey, Meet Joe Black, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Yes, I'm serious. Each of those movies belongs to a very different genre and it is hard for me to pick just ONE, since each of them can fulfill a specific need that I may have at any given point in time. Romance, comedy, drama, action...I can't pick just one! So I'm going to invoke my right to be THAT person and say you're lucky you got me to name even one favorite movie. You're also lucky that I'm settling with the aforementioned list and not going through all of my DVDs right now to find more of my "favorite movies."

As I type I'm thinking of more options (Blues Brothers? The Little Mermaid? Lord of the Rings??), but to save time and exasperation, I'll leave it at that.
