Day 6: All the leaves are brown...

Day 6: Your favorite season, and why.

Any season that rains. Seriously. I love, love, love, love, love the rain. Cold rain, warm rain...misty rain, heavy rain...I'll take it all.

I love rain.

That being said, I currently live in the worst possible place in the United States for someone who loves rain. I think it's a toss up between here, Death Valley, and southern Arizona. Siskiyou County, on average, gets about 12-14 inches of rain per year. PER YEAR. I honestly didn't know this until I was teaching a unit on "Weather" last Fall to my 6th graders and showed them an average annual precipitation map of the U.S. How much rain did they receive annually where I was teaching? Oh yeah, they got about 35-40 inches of rain per year.

Ha.

For some reason, I always hated Fall and Spring when I was growing up here in Siskiyou County, but I never really knew why. And then, after I lived in Kentucky for about a year, I realized that I LOVED Fall and Spring back there. Minus the tornadoes. That, my friends, is because Fall and Spring in Kentucky are pretty much equivalent to Summer here in Siskiyou County. I kid you not. Minus the tornadoes. And Winter back there is about the same...with lots of ice. I seriously had never even heard of an ice storm before I lived back there, but oh boy, is THAT an experience? BTW, I also have some GREAT tornado stories for a later post. Remind me sometime to fill you in on those.

Annnnnnnnnyway. I love the rain. And in the past couple months, it has rained more here than I ever remember during my childhood. So, given my recent exposure to Spring, Summer, and Fall in California...I will choose Fall as my favorite season. the colors, the smells, the darker evenings (LOVE THOSE!). But take that choice with a grain of salt, because I haven't experienced a good Winter here for awhile either.

PS. Have you ever noticed how everyone tends to give Summer as their default answer for "favorite season?" That's always kind of irked me and I don't know why.
