Feng shui

After living together for a year and 7 months, we finally have a bedroom worthy of a married couple. That is to say, the bed is not shoved in the corner and the walls aren’t completely bare. Oh, and we have TWO nightstands.

You have no idea how huge of a victory this is in our household! I have always slept on the side of the bed away from the wall. And because I never lived with anyone prior to being married, I never needed another nightstand nor had a reason to keep my bed out of the corner. Unfortunately, Clint was exactly the same way…and as you can imagine, that was a clash of the titans. Somehow, I got the short end of the stick (except when he’s working for CalFire, then it’s party time!) and he has slept on the outside of the bed for over a year straight. Also, he always falls asleep before me. ALWAYS. But I’m usually still reading so he leaves the light on for me. The light that is 6 feet across the bed on the nightstand on HIS SIDE. So, usually it stays on all night because the last thing I want to do when I’m falling asleep is crawl over him and off the bed to turn off the light. Doesn’t this just sound like a fun situation? I was just starting to give in to my fate when, lo and behold, I saw two matching nightstands for sale on Yreka’s Facebook Trading site! I basically took that as a sign from God, and bought them Tuesday afternoon.

After a little rearranging, our bedroom looked something like this:

Except much dirtier. It took 2 hours of cleaning to make it look nice enough for a photo.

The next day I decided the walls were WAY too bare and our room was far too much of a cluttered mess, so I rearranged the closet, packed about 40 times more stuff than I thought could originally fit in there, and called it good. I was meeting some lovely ladies in town for lunch, so I stopped by Walmart to pick up some little shelves and maybe some wall art, but that stuff is so expensive! So, naturally, I went to DollarTree to check out their selection. Success! After another few hours, and lots of help from Clint, our room was finished!

Here is the final finished product:

Apologies for the lack of a full shot of the room, but it is so small that even when I was standing in the hallway I couldn’t get the whole thing in view.

So, there it is, our new and improved bedroom! Feng shui, Montague style.

  1. Woo hoo! You should check out those velvet hangers. It's unbelievable how much space they save versus the plastic ones! Dennis gave them to me for Christmas and they are amazing!
