So I'm sitting here at my parents' house, by myself, watching the Giants/Phillies Game 1 of the NLCS. That means "National League Champion Series" for all of you non-baseball-playoff-watchers. Mom and Dad are out for the night, having a social life that outshines mine by about a million percent. I'm hanging out here, surfin' the net (do people still use that phrase?), waiting for Clint to get home from hunting and come over with a pizza...and wondering what I should blog about. I've been sitting here thinking I had a GREAT lunch date with some lovely ladies this afternoon, it is a beautiful fall afternoon, and I resorted to hijacking my parents' tv this afternoon/evening to watch the baseball playoffs. I was thinking all of this, about 5 minutes ago, and then I thought, "What part of that thought process doesn't quite flow? Should I expand upon the lunch date? Or the beautiful fall afternoon? Or should I possibly elaborate on the reasoning behind the hijacking of my parents' home?"
Yep, you guessed right.
Why do I need to hijack their tv, you may ask? Oh, that's because we don't have tv. We have A tv, but we don't actually have anything that shows up when we turn it on...unless we put in a movie or something. When I bring this up in everyday conversation, most people look at me like I have 3 heads, or something equally as ridiculous. My mom honestly cannot even comprehend what I do with my time if I don't watch tv. I mean, really? Is it that weird?
Yes. It IS that weird. Sometimes I can't even comprehend the fact that I live without tv.
I make up for it throughout the week. I spend some of my lunch hours at Katie's house, catching up on the shows that I have DVR-ed over there (Top Model, anyone?). I also spend Thursday nights watching Grey's over at Amy's house with Erin. It gets me by. And I must say it is awfully nice of all those tv networks to show their episodes online. That helps me get my Glee fix.
But to be completely honest, as much as I feel like I should be a much more politically-minded and hippie-ish person to be living without tv...I get a HECK of a lot done around the house. I usually have a movie or a show on DVD running in the background, but I don't feel as pressured to actually watch the darn thing, because I own it. And I can watch it at any time. And I know most of you out there have DVRs or TIVO (I did once upon a time, too...back in the glory days) so you can pause or rewind or save a recorded movie or show forEVER. But here's the kicker: I don't want to pay for it anymore.
There. I said it.
I don't want to pay for tv. I don't want to have that godawful bill every month for the bare minimum package, of which I watch maybe 1 or 2 channels. I really and truly enjoy not having a cable or satellite bill.
It just becomes slightly inconvenient when there is something REALLY great on that I want to watch that isn't shown online...like the NLCS playoffs...which go on for a week. I guess mom and dad are going to see a whole lot more of our shining faces in the next week! I like to call it "quality time!" Thanks for your hospitality, guys!

Love it! I just had lunch with a friend on Thursday who does the same thing you do, and I think it's great. We don't watch enough TV that it should make a difference for us to cancel, either...hmmm...
