I came across this on my Facebook this morning...I wrote it almost 2 years ago, and it seems like just yesterday! After reading it, my tummy and chest are a jumbled mess of feelings ranging from sadness to nostalgia to smiles.
So much has changed since I wrote this, and so much is the same. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I just did.
100 Things About Myself:
01. I'm doing this more as a challenge to myself, because I really don't think I can come up with 100 things about me. Doing 25 was hard enough.
02. I am an avoider. I'm pretty sure it runs in my family, because my parents and brothers are avoiders too...we don't talk about the important things. We'd rather pretend they don't exist.
03. I try very hard every day to express my feelings to people, because I have spent the majority of my life having feelings expressed to me and not having the gumption to say anything back.
04. I think that expressing feelings just comes easier to some people. And I try to learn as best I can from those people.
05. I really really can't stand lying. Every time I have lied for as long as I can remember something bad has happened. I think that's just God's way of reminding me to tell the truth.
06. I also can't stand it when people lie to me. Does that mean I wasn't worth the truth?
07. I am going to second Michelle on this one...eggs gross me out. If I think about them too much, I can't eat them for months at a time. No lie.
08. I love trivia. Trivial Pursuit, Jeopardy, anything with trivia will keep me entertained for hours
09. I also love county fairs. Not just because of the amazing quality of people-watching, but something about them makes me all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
10. My friend Hallie and I once won over 20 goldfish at the county fair. This was the year that my mom told me to NOT play the goldfish game because I always came home with too many.
11. This is also the same Hallie who watched "The Little Mermaid" with me probably as much as Nolan McNees watches Cars.
12. I always feel like I'm not appreciating life as much as I should be...like other people are getting more out of it than I am.
13. I love bars.
14. If it's a bar with a cover band, I might never leave.
15. If it's a bar with a cover band that sings Mary Jane's Last Dance you will probably hear me yell "This is my FAVORITE song!!!"...
16. ...and you will have to replay that scenario with every song thereafter.
17. I did not start drinking until I was 20 years old...and sadly enough, it was because of heartbreak.
18. I mean that sadly as in pathetically...not as in sympathetically.
19. Baseball is my favorite sport. There are few better ways to spend a Friday night than at a ballpark in San Francisco.
20. Or curled up on the couch with a beer, watching the game on TV from an apartment across the bay.
21. I miss the view from my apartment in Berkeley every single day.
22. But driving down my road when it's Amish Laundry Day almost makes up for it. Almost.
23. I live for Grey's night with my girls, and I really don't know what I did on Thursday nights before we got together.
24. I have broken over 15 bones...none of them from a major accident. Except my leg, which is still up for debate.
25. From here on out, I always want to live in a place that has all 4 seasons.
26. I will never, ever get tired of visiting the Bay Area
27. Nor will I ever get tired of that first view of Mt. Shasta from around the bend in the canyon, or coming down off the Siskiyous.
28. I don't think anyone here fully appreciates the awesomeness that is Mt. Shasta. I think you have to see it to believe it.
29. As much as I avoid exercise, I am always up for a hike, as long as there's a good view for a reward at the top.
30. I absolutely hate the feeling of being let down.
31. To keep this feeling at bay, I usually try to not make plans or have high expectations for people.
32. I am jealous to a point where it's probably not healthy. I don't like that feeling, and I try to ignore it, but I'm thankful that I have a many who understands.
33. The thing is, I usually only get jealous when there is a reason for it. And I don't find that reason out until much later.
34. I am the most pessimistic person when it comes to my own life, but the most optimistic for everyone else's. Thank you, Evelynn, for pointing that out to me.
35. I miss being home and always having steak in the freezer. That stuff is expensive out here in the real world!
36. I try my hardest to be a great friend.
37. But it drives me crazy when I get busy and never hear from my friends, because I am not the one keeping in touch. It's a two-way street.
38. I moved out of California to get away from it all, and the thought of moving back makes me a little uneasy.
39. I really am the luckiest girl, and have made some of the greatest friends here in the south.
40. I cannot wait to be done with school for good...8 months to the day until I graduate!
41. I am very insecure when it's important, and need a lot of outside reassurance. But I rarely show it.l
42. I really do plan on winning the lottery someday.
43. My neighbor's dog sounds like my Grandma's old dog, Pepper. It's a serious flashback sometimes.
44. I have the two greatest and absolute weirdest cats in the universe, Mr Pickles and Serious Cat.
45. I really do believe everything happens for a reason. It may not make sense at the time, but give it awhile until the smoke clears.
46. Like many other residents of Tennessee/Kentucky, I never had allergies until I moved here.
47. It has taken me almost an hour to get this far.
48. Spaghetti and tacos are my comfort foods.
49. And steak.
50. And fried chicken.
51. I could get lost in bookstores for hours at a time. Usually, if I have time to kill, that's where you'll find me.
52. Once upon a time, back in my golden days of Berkeley, I could write a 6 page paper in an hour. 10 minutes per page.
53. Honestly, that really was a high point in my life.
54. I miss having a pet fish...but my cats kind of ruined that fun for me.
55. I also REALLY want a dog, but I know it's not fair to have one in an apartment. So I will wait.
56. When I moved away for college, I missed my dogs more than my parents.
57. I hate birds. Hate them. If you have a pet one, keep it away from me please. I blame the Richardsons for this.
58. I love black and white photography.
59. My favorite picture of all time is still the Kissing the War Goodbye (The sailor kissing the girl in Times' Square)
60. I am ever-so-slightly obsessed with the 1940s.
61. And by that I mean I love the movies, the clothes, the music, the stories, the dancing, etc.
62. I can never get enough of my Grandma's stories.
63. I strive to be just like my dad. But the older I get, the more I want some of my mom's strength.
64. I have the craziest, hugest family ever, and I love them all. I couldn't have asked for a better childhood.
65. I have 30 first cousins. No lie.
66. Someday, when I get married, I'm going to be really sad to give up my last name.
67. Amish buggies passing by my window will never cease to make my day.
68. I am a sucker for quotes. Especially inspirational ones.
69. I keep the best one taped to my bathroom mirror so I have to read it every morning and every night.
70. I love love love love love cooking.
71. If you would have told me I'd say that 5 years ago, I would have laughed in your face.
72. I still get occasional cravings for Yogurt Park, Fat Slice, Gypsies, and Chinese Express.
73. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Telegraph Ave.
74. Someday I will go to Europe.
75. I will also visit every one of the United States. Hopefully more than once
76. I want to travel more than anything, and I am so envious of my friends that get to now!
77. Someday I will also go to the World Series.
78. I would rather take pictures of myself and someone than have someone else do it. They never turn out right.
79. Natural disasters scare the bejeezus out of me.
80. I'm usually a "worst case scenario" thinker.
81. I have a really really really hard time killing anything. Flies, bugs, and spiders included. Most of the time I just close my eyes until they go away.
82. I once had a horse named Wilbur (aka Speed Demon) that I rode to town with my cousin Ashley.
83. I bet that got you thinking about the type of town I grew up in.
84. I miss going to rodeos.
85. The weekend I went to Disneyland with Anna is one of the best weekends I can ever remember.
86. It was the beginning of a long climb out of a dark tunnel.
87. I also want to go to the Grand Ol Opry at least once while I'm out here. I mean, heck, it's an hour away.
88. I love the sound, smell, feel, and taste of rain.
89. I also love the smell of snow. Don't question it...snow does have a smell.
90. One of my favorite things about summers in Kentucky are the hot summer nights.
91. I never joined a sorority in college, and I never regretted that.

100. An hour and a half later...I'm tired. Success.
